Current Administration/Helpers Duties & Explanations

Definition of Tasks and Responsibilities
Founder > Co-Founder > SOp > AOp > Helper
#DragonHeart

As the pool from which new AOps will eventually be drawn, the channel Helpers will be those seen with +Voices in all Heart-related channels. In the absence of a Chanserv setting for +Voices on DALnet, all Ops should be ready to provide Helpers with their respective mode on sight.

Helpers are not set in stone and may, upon request, be temporarily relieved of their duties. While they may ask for aid from any and all Ops, Helpers do not officially report to or receive orders from Ops, unless directly pertaining to these specific tasks and responsibilities, or the general channel rules. Otherwise, they report and answer only to the Founder and Co-Founder. Personal requests from other Ops are left to the Helpers' discretion.

Ambassadorial Presence  -  The Helpers are not law-keepers. They are as ambassadors where the other Ops are too often considered inaccessible to the patrons in general. The Helpers will be the friendly voice of reminder and greeting while being unburdened by the responsibility and karma that go with the daily actions of keeping the law and the peace by the more forceful means available to the regular Op body. While Helpers will be expected to be snitches, at times, the point must not be stressed, lest their individual and over-all reputations as ambassadors be lost in a cloud of bitterness and regret. Often, it will be best for any present Helpers to offer warm greetings and welcomes, even to people known to be problematic. A personal touch is a comforting detail, but Helpers must not be afraid to say if they have too many active windows and close some off.

Interpersonal Example  -  As the Helpers are not Ops, there will be a tendency for patrons to often ignore, belittle or rage at them for their greetings and reminders. This is to be expected and prepared for. Helpers must remain calm and polite, providing the better example for conduct becoming of intelligent and mature people. Despite the lack of respect for kindness, courtesy, politeness and generally well-behaved people in society today, the Helpers will be just that. There is to be no question as to their understanding of the rules and applicable etiquette.

Crew Awareness -  In order to effectively delegate questions and problems to present Ops, Helpers will need to be aware of which are present, which are away from their keyboards or which are too busy to do as needed. This will require open lines of communication between all officially associated with the Heart. Courtesy and consideration are essential. If a Helper must be absent during busy conditions in the Heart, it should be clearly announced by appending a -BRB or -AFK to their nicknames, or any such indicative measure.

Informed Opinions  -  Though Helpers are not within the circle of regular Ops, they will be kept informed of all decisions made above them so that they may better serve the patrons with applicable information on the subject when asked. Helpers are to make periodical reports and inquiries as to the situation within and around the channel, offering and receiving insights as needed. To this end, all Helpers must be intimately aware of all the rules at all times.

Riot Control  -  Helpers will need to be ready to talk to rowdy patrons if no Ops are present or able to handle the matter and log transgressions in the absence of Ops for immediate reporting. They will be expected to stress diplomacy and public relations. Helpers may not cuss and will pass on problems and questions that they are unable to handle to Ops or other Helpers that may handle them -- the matter will be taken care of as soon as possible. In the face of patrons uncontrollable by reason and reminder, Helpers are to simply watch and report the situation so that it may be dealt with by an Op when one becomes available.

Smoke-Detection  -  The old adage of where there's smoke need not be repeated. Detached from the ebb and flow of the regular Op body, the Helpers will be an independent body, reporting equally on the situation among patrons as the situation among Ops. While Helpers do not carry as mighty a badge as Ops, their eyes are expected to be uniform and unhindered. They are the eyes and the ears of all truths. Their word is not above law, but their presence is.
For information on how to become a Helper for #DragonHeart, please speak to S`qarr or Mahayr. Future Operators will only be chosen from this pool.
Open Letter. Primarily intended for past Administration and patrons of the  Heart. Please read carefully and with an open mind and heart.
"The ability to do without constant approval and recognition from others. Particularly in a work situation, the need for constant approval can be harmful and counterproductive. It should not really matter how many people like leaders. The important thing is the quality of work that results from collaborating with them.
The emotionally wise leader realizes that this quality will suffer when undue emphasis is placed on being a "good guy." More important, it is a large part of the leader's job to take risks. And risks by their very nature cannot be pleasing to everyone."
Leaders by Warren Bennis and Burt Nanus.
